01 / What it is
Microneedling uses a pen-shaped device fitted with a sterile, single-use cartridge of very fine needles. It makes controlled punctures in the upper layers of the skin while your practitioner moves across the treatment area in a set pattern.
A numbing cream is usually applied first. It is a skin treatment, not an injectable, and at Clerestory it is only booked after a consultation, so that suitability, timing and aftercare are agreed before the day.
02 / Who it may suit
Who it may suit, and when to wait.
A guide, not a decision. Your practitioner confirms suitability at consultation, and may suggest a different treatment or a different time.
May suit
- People with concerns about skin texture who have talked options through at consultation.
- Those who can plan around a day or two of visible pinkness.
- Anyone comfortable following a stricter aftercare routine for the first week.
We may suggest waiting
- Not usually offered during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Postponed if there is active acne, a cold sore or broken skin in the area.
- Your practitioner will ask about medication, skin conditions and any history of raised scarring before going ahead.
03 / Your appointment
What happens, in order.
- 01
Consultation first
A separate appointment, at least a week before, where suitability is decided and questions are answered.
- 02
Preparation
Skin is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied, then left to settle while you rest.
- 03
Treatment
Your practitioner works across the area in passes, checking in with you throughout. You can ask to pause at any time.
- 04
Calm and protect
A soothing serum and a mineral sunscreen, then written aftercare to take home.
04 / Aftercare
The next few days.
You also leave with this written down. If anything feels unexpected, call the clinic.
- 01
Expect skin to look and feel pink or warm, often compared to mild sunburn, for a day or two.
- 02
Avoid make-up for the first day, and heat, saunas and strenuous exercise for two days.
- 03
Skip retinoids and exfoliating acids until your practitioner says otherwise.
- 04
Wear sunscreen every morning and keep to the shade where you can.
- 05
Call us straight away if you notice anything that worries you.
05 / Questions
Asked often.
01Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as prickly rather than painful once the numbing cream has worked, but everyone is different. You can ask to pause at any point.
02How many sessions will I need?
We do not sell courses up front. If a plan makes sense, it is agreed at consultation and reviewed as you go, and you can stop whenever you like.
03Is it the same as a roller used at home?
No. The clinic device uses sterile, single-use cartridges and controlled settings, and it is used by a trained practitioner after a consultation.
